Accompanied by Original Tools & Accessories From1948 to 1954, the XK 120 established Jaguar at the forefront of sports car manufacturers with its elemental yet graceful lines and impressive performance. It was soon clear that its sound original design could easily be improved and updated. As such, the XK 140 arrived in late 1954 with a comprehensive list of improvements designed to overcome the few shortcomings of its predecessor. The XK 140 provided enhanced performance and passenger comfort to maintain Jaguars appeal, particularly in the all-important U.S. market. Notable upgrades included the addition of precise rack and pinion steering, improved braking and cooling, as well as greatly improved cabin comfort and legroom. While the basic 102-inch wheelbase remained unchanged, the bodywork was subtly updated, with the classic Jaguar styling elements of the original design remaining largely intact.
Completed on the 18th of April 1956 wearing striking Pastel Blue paintwork over a Red leather cabin, this fully optioned XK140 MC offered here was dispatched on May 11, 1956 to the famed Jaguar importer Charles Hornburgin Los Angeles, California. Charles H. Hornburg Jr., is recognized as the first importer of Jaguar automobiles to the United States. The veteran West LA car dealer struck an agreement with Sir William Lyons, which brought Jaguar to country. Many Hollywood legends purchased Jaguars from Mr. Hornburgs Los Angeles showroom such as Clark Gable and this vehicles said first owner Roy Rogers. S812354DN boasts a number of qualities that heighten its desirability. Primarily, this Jaguar features the special equipment of the MC package, a fabulous option combination comprised of the M package (including a crankshaft damper, wire wheels, dual exhaust pipes, and twin fog lamps) as well as the high-compression C-type cylinder head that raised brake horsepower by 20 for a stout 210 BHP.
Acquired in 1958 by the cars near life-long caretaker, this particular XK140 was thoroughly enjoyed by the family for many years until it was tucked away in the owners garage for safe keeping. Recently pulled from its long slumber, the Jaguar remains astonishingly original today as a remarkable preservation of this rare breed. Aside from an older respray in correct color, all upholstery, trim, glass, brightwork, rubber and components appear original to the vehicle. The XKs factory leather upholstery displays a beautiful patina, while its mechanical components and powertrain are in need a service before any road use. A premium new upholstery package is supplied with the vehicle, should the new owner decide to restore the interior.
