The 365 GT 2+2 was built for the sporting enthusiast with friends or children and gives the quintessential 1960s vintage Ferrari experience with the last of the curvaceous Pininfarina–bodied grand tourers, powered by the final iteration of the Colombo V–12 two–cam engine. The interior is roomy for two adults and two children for long distance touring. The inclusion of additional convenience and luxury features further enhanced the car’s comfort, while the familiar front-mounted 4.4 liter V12 and striking Pininfarina styling ensured that the car retained all of the traditional positive Ferrari traits.
Currently finished in Metallic Blue over black leather trim, this particular example is a U.S. market car fitted with factory Air-Conditioning and 5-speed transmission, delivered new to Luigi Chinetti Motors in Greenwich, CT. Records indicate a Mr. Roger Ellis of Reno, NV owned the Ferrari until the late 1970’s, when it made its way to California. Around that period, the car received new leather seating, carpeting, Borrani wire wheels and transmission rebuild at an indicated 30,000 miles. The next long term caretaker, Mr. Willford, a now retired Naval officer of Citrus Heights, CA, acquired 13045 in 1984 and has fondly enjoyed the 365 over the last 29 years.
Attentive stewardship certainly reflects in the vehicle’s current overall condition. Behind the wheel, the car feels smooth with plenty of power, capable of easy freeway cruising and reliable operating in city traffic. Cosmetically, the Ferrari shows superficial blemishes from age such as paint checkering, and can only be expected. Likewise, the bright work appears original, as is the window glass. The car sits on correct and shiny Borrani wire wheels, with matching spare and knockoff wrench.
Inside, the leather seating and carpets look great with steadfast coloring. The dash wood is nice and presents beautifully, as does the headliner. The remaining original upholstery shows typical wear in areas, although the cabin comes across very tidy. An original emergency window crank is stowed in the glove compartment. The engine bay and undercarriage are largely original and correct, as is the trunk.
This lovingly maintained example offers an outstanding opportunity to acquire a well arranged and capable “California” driver. With sleek styling reminiscent of the 330 and 500 Superfast, as well as a proficient powertrain and comparatively modern chassis, a nicely sorted 365 GT 2+2 is a pleasure to own and use.
