1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 "Periscopio": The 50th of only 150 "Periscopios" Produced
Chassis no. 1120100
Engine no. 1120034
Original color: Blu Notte with a Ivory/Blue interior
This wonderful Countach is the 50th of only 150 "Periscopios" built and originally left the factory in extremely desirable Blu Notte with Ivory/Blue interior. A rolling art form, designed by Marcello Gandini of Bertone fame. The Countach was a game changing design just like the Miura that proceeded it several years before. Never has a production car ever taken the world by storm like the Countach. The word Countach roughly translates to "astonishment and admiration". What a fitting name for such at machine! The beautiful engine design comes from Giotto Bizzarrini. Bizzarrini's design started as a 1.5 liter Grand Prix racing engine while he was chief engineer at Ferrari.
From the factory it was sold to Milano dealer Achilli Motors on September 24, 1975. From Italy the car traveled to Tokyo, Japan and was purchased by Mr. Urushibara Norimitsu on August 15, 1977. Mr. Norimitsu later traded the car to Hawk Sogyo Co. Ltd., Tokyo. Hawk Sogyo Co. Ltd. sold the car on January 29, 1980 to Mr. Minuro Yasukawa of Los Angles, California. Mr. Yasukawa traded the car in at Royal Classic Motors in Marina Del Rey, California. Mr Yasukawa worked with McLaren and Leyton House F1 teams. His son is Professional racing driver Roger Yasukawa. October 29, 1981 Mr. Thomas Mittler, a well known collector, from Mishawaka, Indiana purchased the car from Royal Classic Motors. The car has been in a private collection since 1984 with very little use.
In the summer of 2017 a comprehensive engine rebuild was completed (engine number 1120034). The car is in very original condition with the exception of having a color change to red and the interior changed to black sometime early in its life. The current colors have been present since Mr. Mittler purchased the car in 1981. The original color was Blu Notte with a Ivory/Blue interior. From service records the car has only traveled 190 miles in the last 20 years! The tires are date coded 1981! In 1988 the car was photographed by Hallmark Cards for use in a 1989-1990 school year calendar and jigsaw puzzle, I am sure that the calendar inspired many a young school boy! The car has been stored in a climate controlled environment for the last 33 years and is in very good condition considering the age of the paint.
