The Mercedes-Benz 500K was built to be a Grand Tourer and was made to replace the outgoing 380 model. It's styling was more opulent compared to the 380 in response to the restrained styling on the outgoing model. The result was a beautifully styled grand tourer with long sloping lines and fantastic performance. Production started in 1934 and continued until 1936. Mercedes offered the very potent 5L straight eight with "kompressor" (German for supercharger) firing out 160 HP. This propelled the car to well over 100 mph, a great feat in its day. The 500K was offered in three different chassis: two with a 129.5 inch wheelbase and one with a 117.3 inch wheelbase.
